In our lives, we spend a lot of time worrying what others think and letting this effect our daily life. We can also find ourselves consumed by a feeling of fear that is created off the back of irrelevant or imaginary situations, worrying about the future instead of living in the NOW. Within a working environment, this can manifest as stress and, as a CEO, you may also find your employees are not being encouraged by the right motivation within their workplace. This is where my motivation masterclass in London comes in!

This method involves educating employees to understand why they feel they way they do and why they do the things that they do.

Today, I’m going to talk you through some basics that I apply within my masterclasses, to give you a little taster of what to expect!

Motivation Masterclass in London: What Is Motivation?

Simply put, according to its most basic definition, motivation is a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way. If we transfer this to the business world and work, it can be defined as something that causes you to try harder or to strive for more.

Whilst motivation is viewed as a positive drive for success, sometimes, individuals can be driven be the entirely wrong things. The result of this? Feelings of stress and anxiety, and a lower performance rate at work.

Understanding Different Types of Motivation

It may seem silly to say that there are different types of motivation, but there are! What the motivation masterclass in London will teach you is the differences between the two and what effects they have.

Away Motivation

Firstly, let’s look at the bad type of motivation, or ‘away motivation’. Speaking from experience, this type of motivation has the ability to completely consume you in the worst ways, if you let it.

As a person, I never felt like I was good enough and that I had to prove myself to those around me to gain acceptance from them. I was bought up in a house with one tap and an outside toilet. We had no central heating and, compared to the other kids at my school, my upbringing was basic.

Due to these experiences in my younger years, as I grew older, I was constantly motivated to move away from this. I wanted to be smarter and richer than everyone else. As a result, I didn’t realise I was motivating myself away from something rather than towards a goal!

Away motivation’ is driven by fear and despite what people say, fear is not a good motivator.

Towards Motivation

When you are motivated, it should be because you are working towards a goal. This is ‘towards motivation’ and is a much healthier way of achieving your ambitions. Working towards a goal motivates you to be better and eliminates any stresses you may feel.

This kind of motivation is best for giving people a sense of achievement, a better self-esteem and it increases their overall value. If your employees are motivated towards a goal instead of away from a fear, this will increase their productivity and make them feel like a valued member of your team. The fear they are running away from is usually something they have created in their mind, as this is where fears exists.

Motivation Masterclass in London: Living in The Now  

In order to work on changing employee mindsets and moving away from creating unnecessary fears, people need to learn to live in the NOW. Although ‘towards motivation’ is focusing on the future, you can’t even begin to get there unless you learn to appreciate what is right in front of you. Don’t get me wrong, drive and ambition are wonderful motivators, however, it means you are continually focused on the next achievement without being able to stop and enjoy yesterday’s tomorrow, today.

Yesterday, we were focused on tomorrow’s achievement, which will turn out to be today, and, if we are always focused on the next achievement tomorrow, we will never fulfil ourselves with a sense of achievement.
